Who is Akela?

Akela is the Webelos Scout name for a good leader. Some of the people you may call Akela are your father or mother, your teacher, your den chief, your Cubmaster, or anyone who is a good leader.

Good leaders first learn to follow. That's why the first part of the Law of the Pack asks you to follow. Follow good leaders. Follow Akela.

You help the Pack Go!!!

When you become a Cub Scout, you're a member of a Den and a Cub Scout Pack. You'll help the Pack Go by doing whatever you can to help the Pack run smoothly. By doing your part, you'll help everyone in your Den and Pack get the most out of all their activities.

Help the Pack Go by attending all meetings and following the Leaders. Your Pack will be better in every way because you're in it!

The Pack helps the Cub Scout Grow!

You will "grow" in skills and knowledge while you are a Cub Scout. That is what all Pack leaders want for you. They plan interesting and fun activities to help all Cub Scouts grow. Learning new skills and new ways of doing things will help you prepare for Boy Scouting. That's how the Pack helps you Grow.

The Cub Scout gives Goodwill!

Goodwill means cheerfulness and kindness. You give goodwill by having a cheerful attitude, by being kind in what you say and do, and by looking for ways to help other people. Smile and Help are two Cub Scout words to always remember.

The Boy Scouts of America and Saint Francis Xavier Pack 658

As a parent, you want your son to grow up to be a person of worth, self-reliant, dependable, and a caring individual. Scouting has these same goals in mind for him.

Boy Scouting is an exciting program for youth and adults who want to share in the development of young people. In 1923 Saint Francis Xavier Church became the charter organization establishing Winooski Boy Scouts. In signing the charter, church leaders made the commitment to adopt the program concepts and values of the Boy Scouts of America as an integral part of their outreach to the youth of the community. For over 84 years, Winooski Boy Scouts has provided that educational program for our boys and young adults. We are the oldest, continuously sponsored Boy Scout Troop in the State of Vermont.

Since 1923 we have been weaving lifetime values into fun and educational activities designed to assist parents in strengthening character, developing good citizenship, and enhancing physical fitness in our youth.

These values help your son make good decisions throughout his lifetime and give him confidence as he becomes an adult leader of tomorrow. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to serve others by helping to instill values in our young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime and achieving their full potential. With all the negative influences in today’s society, Scouting provides your son with a positive peer group and a program that is fun and adventurous and helps him to “be prepared” to shape his own future.

How Do I Join The Cub Scouts?

Boys, who are interested in the Boy Scouting program and are thinking about joining our Pack, are welcome to attend one of our Thursday meetings at 6:00pm in the Boy Scout Room at Saint Francis Xavier School in Winooski, Vermont. Please check the Pack Web Site home page for our Pack and Den meeting schedule. Since we offer a year round program, boys can signup at anytime of the year. Our Pack meets once a month during the school year. Boys will have a chance to meet our Scouts, participate in some fun activities and see how our program works. We can answer any questions you may have regarding the program, uniforms, the Cub Scout Handbooks and the application process. Additional information is explained in the Pack Handbook that can be found in the Pack Information section of our web site. If you have a question for the Cubmaster, please feel free to use the Contact Us
page on the Pack Web Site.

The Cub Scout Program

Tiger Cubs is a one year program for first grade boys. Tiger Cubs introduces boys and their adult partners to the excitement of Cub Scouting as they live the Tiger Cub motto together: Search, Discover, Share. Tiger Cubs is designed to build stronger families through involvement in a simple, low cost program that is flexible and fun for boys and adults.

Cub Scouting is a home and neighborhood centered program designed to support family life for boys in the second through fifth grades. Each Cub Scout learns to respect his home, country, God and other people.

A Cub Scout Den provides your son with a group of boys his own age in which he can earn status and recognition. In the Den he will also gain a sense of personal achievement for the new skills he learns.
